The number of COVID-19 cases in the United States reached 5,191,689 by 19:27 Eastern Standard Time on Wednesday, with an increase of 52,839 over the past 24 hours, according to statistics from the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.
The national fatalities from the highly contagious virus reached 165,909, the CSSE tally shows.
At the state level, New York has recorded 32,797 deaths while 73,842 people have been discharged from hospitals. New Jersey has reported 15,885 deaths alongside 33,223 discharges. California, Texas and Florida have suffered 10,699, 9,483 and 8,765 deaths, respectively.
