"That is definitely not how it should have been handled. There was three gentlemen, who are well trained police officers, who should have been well-trained police officers who had to deal with scenarios like this. They should have dealt with it 100 percent differently than that. More than definitely not seven shots into this gentleman's back while getting in his car."

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Quentin Pompy, eyewitness of shooting/protester:
"It always comes back to this. Hands up, don't shoot. That's what we do. Hands up, don't shoot. But does it matter? No, because it doesn't get there. We still get shot. Just like this young man over here. He got shot. And where is he? In the hospital. Because the police want to use excessive force."

Storyline

Protests were sparked in Kenosha, Wisconsin state after a black man was hospitalized after being shot by police officers on Sunday.

In video footage posted online, Jacob Blake was seen walking to his vehicle and being followed by two police officers with their guns drawn. As he entered the driver's side of the car, he was shot in the back with at least seven shots being heard. A family attorney said Blake's children were in the car.

The shooting sparked a night of protest in Kenosha, in which car dealerships were torched and vehicles near the courthouse were also set on fire.

On Monday, around two dozen Black Lives Matter protesters gathered at the spot of the shooting and then marched to the courthouse.

When the shooting happened, police were responding to a domestic incident that witnesses of the incident said did not directly involve Blake.

"That is definitely not how it should have been handled. There was three gentlemen, who are well trained police officers, who should have been well-trained police officers who had to deal with scenarios like this. They should have dealt with it 100 percent differently than that. More than definitely not seven shots into this gentleman's back while getting in his car," said Arend Campuzano, a resident who lives across the road from where the shooting took place.

The outrage seen in Kenosha is reminiscent of what happened in Minnesota in May when George Floyd died after a police officer knelt on his neck for almost nine minutes.

Activists said this shooting once again highlights the issues of police brutality and racial injustice.

"It always comes back to this. Hands up, don't shoot. That's what we do. Hands up, don't shoot. But does it matter? No, because it doesn't get there. We still get shot. Just like this young man over here. He got shot. And where is he? In the hospital. Because the police want to use excessive force," said Quentin Pompy, an eyewitness and protester.

Wisconsin's Governor Tony Evers condemned the shooting and ordered the deployment of National Guard troops amid the unrest, but protesters here said they would continue to demonstrate until justice for Blake has been achieved.
