Storyline

China's image is steadily improving, according to a global survey released Tuesday.

Conducted by the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies, the survey interviewed 11,000 people in 22 countries.

The country scored 6.3 out of 10 for its overall image, maintaining a continuous upward trend in recent years, according to the China National Image Global Survey 2019.

The report of the survey shows that China's participation in global governance in the fields of technology, economy, culture, public security, politics, and ecology gained more recognition overseas, with four percentage points up in both culture and security areas over last year, and three percentage climb in each of the rest categories.

In terms of its contribution to global governance, China received loudest applauds for its performances in technology, economy and culture. Overseas respondents in particular expected China to further exert its strength in the economic and technological sectors in the future.

"Belt and Road" turned out to be the best-known Chinese initiative proposal among global citizens in 2019. Among the participating respondents, over 40 percent believe that the co-construction of Belt and Road is "beneficial to realize the connectivity of infrastructure among countries and regions", "helpful in the investment and trade cooperation between countries along the route", and the initiative is "a promising global public product".

The respondents also expressed their expectation for Belt and Road to contribute more in clearing trade pathways and bonding infrastructures.

Additionally, China remains highly regarded in its technological innovation abilities, praised by 68 percent of respondents from overseas and even 80 percent from developing countries.

Meanwhile, 80 percent of the interviewees have experienced Chinese cuisine, with more than 80 percent them much impressed by it.

Yu Yunquan, director of the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies, believes that the studies on overseas interviewees' impression of China as a whole are helpful for the Chinese media to make China better known to the world.
