Chinese President Xi Jinping's remarks at the general debate of the 75th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly provide important reference for the international community to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and address the common challenges, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Wednesday.

Xi delivered a speech at a high-level meeting to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the UN via video on Monday, calling for more efforts to uphold multilateralism.

Wang Wenbin, the spokesman, made the comment at a press briefing in Beijing when asked the messages sent to the world in President Xi's address.

"Yesterday, President Xi Jinping delivered an important speech at the general debate of the 75th UN General Assembly. It clarified China's position and propositions on major issues such as strengthening international protest cooperation, promoting world economic recovery, and supporting the cause of the United Nations. Xi's speech demonstrated China's role as a major country in promoting the peace and development of mankind, and has received positive responses in the international arena," he said.
