"We have noticed Ambassador Dominic Barton's remarks. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Canada. The 50-year history of China-Canada relations has fully proved a stable and healthy bilateral relationship is in the common interests of people of both countries. Meanwhile, only by upholding the principles of mutual respect and equality can the relationship between two countries remain stable and far-reaching."

China hopes to see real efforts made by Canada to reach a stable and healthy relationship between two countries, Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said at a press briefing in Beijing on Wednesday.
When asked to respond Canadian Ambassador's remarks saying that the focus of the world has shifted to Asia and Canada should make more efforts on the relationship with China as this country will play a more important role, Wang said, "We have noticed Ambassador Dominic Barton's remarks. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Canada. The 50-year history of China-Canada relations has fully proved a stable and healthy bilateral relationship is in the common interests of people of both countries. Meanwhile, only by upholding the principles of mutual respect and equality can the relationship between two countries remain stable and far-reaching."
Wang said that China does not want to see such a difficult situation of current China-Canada relationship.
"We urge Canada to go in a direction so that we can meet each other half way, and make real efforts to get relationship between two countries back on track," added Wang.
