Storyline

Qingdao City in east China's Shandong Province has completed large-scale nucleic acid sampling and testing work in just over five days after having recorded three new asymptomatic cases of COVID-19 earlier in the week.

This follows the announcement by the Qingdao Municipal Health Commission on October 11 of three new asymptomatic cases in Qingdao, with the specific source of infection under investigation.

Local authorities immediately held an emergency meeting overnight to activate the emergency response mechanism, aiming to accomplish nucleic acid testing of the five districts within three days and the whole city in five days.

National, provincial, and municipal joint expert teams rushed to the scene quickly. In addition, medical personnel, basic-level staff and volunteers rushed to the front line, while residents also responded promptly to notices of citywide testing.

"Through the community WeChat group, I learned that the community was carrying out nucleic acid testing. I brought my child over for testing as soon as possible, for my own safety and also for the safety of family and friends," said Wang Chunshuang, citizen of Jiaozhou City.

After the full-staff testing started, Zhang Yiran, opted to volunteer in Qingdao.

"Many people are willing to help us in every link, and residents who came to the nucleic acid test were very cooperative. They are very polite to us, and have always thanked us. Besides, our medical staff and our doctors have a very good attitude and they are very kind to the elderly and children," said Zhang Yiran, volunteer.

Many medical teams and volunteers quickly assembled to help Qingdao. 22-year-olds Chen Anqi and Zeng Ziyi, who volunteered in Wuhan and later at Beijing's Xinfadi market, are now in Qingado helping out.

"When Wuhan was facing the most difficult time, medical teams from all over the country came to support us. If there are other cities that need our support in the future, I will be obliged to support them," said Chen Anqi, nurse of Wuhan Aid Youth Nucleic Acid Testing Working Group.

Meantime, the press conference has increased from once a day to twice a day, reporting on the latest epidemic situation and responding to public concerns.

As of 20:00 on Thursday, Qingdao had collected 10,580,334 samples for COVID-19 nucleic acid test, and no new positive samples have been found except for confirmed cases.
