A heavy snow hit northeast China's Heilongjiang Province Saturday and Sunday, forcing closure of 13 highways and traffic restriction of many others.
The continuous snow pounded many parts of Heilongjiang. The highway from Harbin to Daqing was closed at about 09:30 Sunday. Traffic restrictions were also imposed on vehicles with seven seats and more on many other highways, where the maximum speed was limited at 80 kilometers per hour.
The Harbin-Daqing highway was reopened to traffic at around 12:30 Sunday.
The government issued a yellow warning for road icing and deployed police to help drivers on the highways and snow sweepers to clear the snow. A dozen multi-vehicle collisions happened on the Harbin Airport Highway. The airport highway imposed the speed limit of 40 kilometers per hour.
Flights were greatly affected. As of 12:00 Sunday, 64 flights departing from the Harbin Taiping International Airport were canceled or delayed.
The China Railway Harbin Group Co., Ltd. added carriages to high-speed and common trains to accommodate passengers.
