Storyline

More than 149.07 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered across China as of Wednesday, said the National Health Commission on Thursday.

To expand the coverage of the vaccination program and bring convenience to the residents, many cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Dalian in northeast China's Liaoning Province and Shenzhen in south China's Guangdong Province, have set up temporary vaccination sites.

Health workers in Shanghai have set up inoculation sites on university campuses and pedestrians streets to give COVID-19 jabs to students, faculty members and shoppers.

Starting from February, Beijing's Shunyi District has set up 26 vaccination sites and established 15-minute inoculation channels to provide convenience for recipients. As of Tuesday, nearly 1.35 million doses had been administrated, with 83.64 percent of people in the district have received at least one dose.

Dalian City in northeast China's Liaoning Province has basically completed inoculation for the high-risk and key groups of people, including cold-chain workers. The vaccination for all residents in Dalian has been gradually rolled out. Dalian has set up 221 vaccination centers. As of Monday, more than 870,000 doses had been administrated.

China started its vaccination program last December, giving priority to high-risk groups, including medical workers, people who work or study overseas and cold-chain industry employees.

The country has so far approved five COVID-19 vaccines. A vaccine by pharmaceutical company Sinopharm was the first China-developed vaccine to be granted conditional marketing authorization on Dec. 30, 2020.

On March 22, Chinese Vice Premier Sun Chunlan called for the acceleration of the country's COVID-19 vaccination campaign to boost its vaccination rate.
