Canada-Huawei CFO/Hearing Delay
Vancouver, Canada - April 19, 2021 (CCTV - No access Chinese mainland)
1. Various of Huawei chief financial officer (CFO) Meng Wanzhou leaving home,
2. Meng getting off vehicle
3. Meng entering court
A Canadian court Wednesday granted Huawei Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou's request to delay her extradition hearing until early August so her defense team can review new evidence.
Meng's lawyers argued this week that they needed time to review additional documents obtained from HSBC in Hong Kong so that they could read the contents of the documents and potentially file them as evidence in the British Columbia Supreme Court.
The hearings were previously scheduled for April 26 and wrap up in mid-May, focusing on the third branch of abuse of process.
Meng was arrested on Dec. 1, 2018 at Vancouver International Airport at the request of the United States, which has been seeking her extradition on fraud charges. Both Meng and Huawei have repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.
Meng is charged with bank fraud in the U.S. for allegedly misleading HSBC about Huawei's business in Iran.
