China's land transportation saw travel peak on Tuesday as the five-day Labor Day holiday is drawing to a close.

The country's railway transportation was expected to handle 15.2 million passenger trips on Tuesday.

The railway sector has implemented strict epidemic prevention measures, and expanded its capacity by adding 1,361 additional trains on Tuesday in order to ensure the smooth and safe trips for the passengers.

Harbin Railway Group in northeast China has arranged 252 additional trains and doubled the number of carriages of 57 bullet trains.

Jinan Railway Group in east China has added 36 trains for popular routes and 56 temporary ones.

Hohhot Railway Group in north China has added 26 trains connecting Beijing and the mid-west of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, while doubling the number of carriages of five bullet trains between Beijing and Hohhot for the first time.

Nanning Railway Group in south China on Tuesday witnessed a surge of traffic flow, which was close to 80 percent of the traffic flow during the same period in 2019.

To provide convenience for the elderly passengers who are not able to buy tickets online, it has opened 84 manned ticket windows in its railway stations.

China's highway transportation has also been seeing a travel peak since 15:00 Tuesday.

Traffic control departments across the country has reinforced staff to ensure orderly and smooth highway traffic.

No long-time large-scale traffic jam or accident which caused over five deaths had been reported nationwide by 18:00 on Tuesday
