Storyline

Chinese young singers and actors who performed in a special program celebrating China's Youth Day on May 4 each year, shared their views on what youth is and encouraged youngsters to pursue their dreams in the new era.

Featuring a series of stage performances, including talk shows and musicals, the program "Striving While in Youth" organized by China Media Group told stories of how young people strive to realize their dreams.

Yang Zi, a famous actress in China, said that the young generation should believe themselves and make all efforts to achieve their goals.

"Youth is a kind of mindset and I hope I'm happy every day. I think that my youth means always striving for something. I've been working very hard, trying to realize my dream. I think it is something wonderful. We must believe in ourselves and once you have a dream, you should spare no efforts to achieve it," she said.

"For me, youth is the period when I learned dancing. I set goals for myself and tried to complete them one by one. Bravery is the only way to realize our dreams," said Liu Yuxin, a young singer.

Singer Zhang Yixing stressed the importance of trying hard in the process of pursuing dream.

"For me, youth is full of passion, is struggling and is pursing dreams. Since I was 17, I have been working hard all the time, and there seemed to be nothing exciting in the process. But I have experienced a lot of bumps and I believe we can be rewarded with some results if we work real hard," he said.

May 4 was formally designated as China's Youth Day after the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949 to commemorate the May Fourth Movement, which started on May 4, 1919 when mass students protested against the government's weak response to the Treaty of Versailles that imposed unfair treatment on China and undermined the country's sovereignty after World War I.

The May Fourth Movement is a defining moment in China's modern history, as it triggered a nationwide campaign to overthrow the outdated society and promote new ideas, including science, democracy and Marxism.
