The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), in a virtual emergency meeting of its foreign ministers on Sunday, condemned the Israeli attacks on Palestinians and urged the international community to end the Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip immediately.

The meeting was held upon the request of Saudi Arabia, the official Saudi Press Agency reported.

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, who chaired the meeting, highlighted Israel's flagrant violations of the sanctity of Islamic sanctuaries, attacks on Palestinian worshipers and civilians, as well as violations of all international resolutions, the press agency said.

He affirmed Saudi Arabia's rejection of the provocative Israeli plans or measures aimed at evicting Palestinians from their homes in East Jerusalem by force, imposing sovereignty over them, and taking all military actions that have caused civilian casualties, including innocent children and women.

The top Saudi diplomat called on the international community to take urgent action to immediately stop military operations, bring in aid, treat the wounded, and work to revive negotiations based on adherence to peace on the basis of the two-state solution in accordance with international law and the Arab Peace Initiative.

Meanwhile, OIC Secretary-General Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen said that the steps taken by Israel don't help the peace process efforts, but instead, ruin the sincere attempts to reach a just, comprehensive and lasting solution.

He affirmed the OIC's solidarity with the Palestinian people and the establishment of their state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

For his part, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Maliki urged the OIC foreign ministers to form an international front to counter Israeli military operations and escalation of violence against the Palestinians.

He also called on them to take actions at the U.N. Security Council, the U.N. General Assembly and the U.N. Human Rights Council, and international courts, against what he called Israel's attacks on the Arabs, Muslims, and all free peoples in the world.

أدانت منظمة التعاون الإسلامي في اجتماع طارئ افتراضي لوزراء خارجيتها يوم الأحد/ 16 مايو الهجمات الإسرائيلية على الفلسطينيين، وحثّت المجتمع الدولي على إنهاء العمليات العسكرية الإسرائيلية في قطاع غزة على الفور.

وذكرت وكالة الأنباء السعودية أن الاجتماع عُقد بناءًا على طلب السعودية.

وترأس الاجتماع الأمير فيصل بن فرحان بن عبدالله وزير الخارجية السعودي، حيث سلط الضوء على الانتهاكات الإسرائيلية الصارخة لحرمة المقدسات الإسلامية، والاعتداء على المصلين والمدنيين الفلسطينيين، فضلًا عن انتهاكات جميع القرارات الدولية، وفقًا للوكالة.

وأكد على رفض السعودية للمخططات أو الإجراءات الإسرائيلية الاستفزازية الهادفة إلى إخلاء الفلسطينيين من منازلهم في القدس الشرقية بالقوة، وفرض السيادة عليهم، واتخاذ كافة الأعمال العسكرية التي تسبّبت في وقوع إصابات في صفوف المدنيين، بمن فيهم أطفال ونساء أبرياء.

ودعا كبير الدبلوماسيين السعوديين المجتمع الدولي إلى اتخاذ إجراءات عاجلة لوقف العمليات العسكرية على الفور وإيصال المساعدات وعلاج الجرحى والعمل لإحياء المفاوضات على أساس الالتزام بالسلام و"حل الدولتين" بما يتوافق مع القانون الدولي
ومبادرة السلام العربية.

وفي الوقت نفسه، قال يوسف بن أحمد العثيمين الأمين العام لمنظمة التعاون الإسلامي إن الخطوات التي اتخذتها إسرائيل لا تساعد في جهود عملية السلام، بل تقوّض المحاولات الصادقة للتوصّل إلى حل عادل وشامل ودائم.

وشدد على تضامن منظمة التعاون الإسلامي مع الشعب الفلسطيني وقيام دولة فلسطين المستقلة على أساس حدود عام 1967 وعاصمتها القدس الشرقية.

من جهته حثّ رياض المالكي وزير الخارجية الفلسطيني وزراء خارجية منظمة التعاون الإسلامي على تشكيل جبهة دولية لمواجهة العمليات العسكرية الإسرائيلية وتصعيد العنف ضد الفلسطينيين.

كما دعاهم إلى اتخاذ إجراءات في مجلس الأمن الدولي والجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة ومجلس حقوق الإنسان التابع للأمم المتحدة والمحاكم الدولية ضد ما وصفه بهجمات إسرائيل على العرب والمسلمين وجميع الشعوب الحرة في العالم.
