Not a single ethnic group should be left behind in the country's endeavor to build a modern socialist China, said Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday.

Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks while visiting the village of Guoluo Zanggongma and talking with villagers in Shaliuhe Township in Gangcha County, Haibei Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, during his inspection tour of northwest China's Qinghai Province.

At the home of villager Sonam Tsering, Xi talked with him and his families. He said that the Chinese nation "should be closely united together like a pomegranate with its seeds sticking together."

"This [photo] shows my previous residence, a roadless place without power and water supply. It was very difficult to go to hospital or school. Now, as the general secretary can see, we have very good living conditions, he said such a big change is good and he is delighted. Now we have cars, mobile phones and can order food delivery. It's very convenient," said Sonam Tsering.

"The general secretary is concerned about ethnic minorities. He said that not a single ethnic group should be left behind," said Sonam Tseten, secretary of CPC branch in Guoluo Zanggongma village.

The village is home to 639 households of 2,458 residents. In recent years, it has actively developed collectively-owned industries and enjoyed dividends mainly from subletting resources and assets.

In 2020, the village's collectively owned income from sectors of animal husbandry, ecological subsidies, and public welfare jobs stood at 361,200 yuan (about 56,544 U.S. dollars), with the villagers' per capita net income standing at 12,313 yuan (about 1,928 U.S. dollars), while the per capita income of registered lower-income households reached 7,678 yuan (about 1,202 U.S. dollars),.

"We'll do a better job to serve our people, and continue to improve the standard of living and production for them," said Zhu Chengqing, Party secretary of Gangcha County.

"The general secretary encouraged us to keep working hard in the future," said Sonam Tsering.
