China’s State Council on Thursday announced the eastern province of Zhejiang as a pilot area to showcase the country's policies for high-quality development and reform, saying that the move is aimed at promoting nationwide prosperity by setting an example.
The council said that common prosperity is an essential part of socialism and unbalanced development remains to be a problem in China. It says promoting common prosperity will be a long-term task, and some regions need to take the lead and set an example.
Guidelines issued by the State Council put forward 20 major measures in six areas conducive to attaining the prosperity.
Among these, the pilot area in Zhejiang will explore ways to resolve the issue of an imbalance in urban and rural development as well as the people's needs for a better quality of life.
It has also set a target for Zhejiang Province to reach regional per capita GDP at the level of an average-developed economy by 2025, and reach regional per capita GDP and personal incomes at developed-economy levels by 2035.
The council also said high-quality development needs to be based on people's common interests, and focus on reform and innovation.
