3. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) You Jun, Deputy Minister of Human Resources and Social Security:
"Firstly, we should strengthen international cooperation and work closely together, which are essential to the global fight against the epidemic and economic growth. The Chinese government supports the adoption of the outcome document of the pandemic response at this conference, and actively promotes to build a community with a shared future for the world of work. However, we regret to note that some major powers ignore their own forced labor and child labor problems, but maliciously fabricate lies, groundlessly slander other countries, and run counter to the multilateralism advocated by the international community. This approach does not help global cooperation in the fight against the pandemic, but will only bring more harm to people around the world."

China is willing to work with the governments of multiple countries, workers and employers to maintain the overall stability of the world economy and employment, said a Chinese official on Thursday while attending the 109th Session of the International Labor Conference (ILC) via video.
You Jun, Chinese deputy minister of Human Resources and Social Security, expressed his appreciation for the measures taken by the International Labor Organization (ILO) in response to the pandemic. He said that at the beginning of 2020, the sudden impact of the COVID-19 outbreak urged China's economic operation to pause for a time, and the unemployment rate rushed to a historical high of 6.2 percent. However, the Chinese government stabilized market players by accelerating employment recovery, establishing a labor dispatch guarantee mechanism for key enterprises, and improving digital services. In 2020, 11.86 million new jobs were created in urban areas and the unemployment rate dropped to 5.2 percent by the end of the year.
You said that it is an important task for the world to overcome the epidemic, restore economic growth, and stabilize the employment situation. To this end, China made three suggestions.
This approach does not help global cooperation in the fight against the pandemic, but will only bring more harm to people around the world," said You.
"Secondly, we should strengthen policy coordination, implement the Centennial Declaration of the International Labor Organization, promote the coordination of monetary, fiscal and taxation policies and employment policies, and strengthen the protection of the rights and interests of employees in new forms of employment, so as to achieve high-quality employment," he said.
"Thirdly, we should promote sustainable development. We should explore the synergy of economic development, job creation, poverty eradication and environmental protection, and jointly achieve the goals of economic growth and decent work in the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development," said You.
The International Labour Conference is held in Geneva, Switzerland every June. From June 7 to 19 this year, representatives of governments, workers and employers from the 187 member states of the ILO will share their suggestions and advice on the realization of a people-centered recovery after the epidemic.
