People's Liberation Army soldiers and police forces have been fully mobilized and deployed to join and assist restoration and reconstruction tasks in flood-battered Zhengzhou City in central China's Henan Province on Friday, undertaking missions of cleaning up streets and disinfecting flooded areas, among a host of other arduous works.
The provincial capital has rolled out comprehensive reconstruction and repairs projects involving resumption of civil facilities, roads and bridges, houses renovation as well as power and water supply alongside guarantees for food and daily needs.
Flooding has waned and subsided in the streets of Zhengzhou, leaving messy and muddy scenes everywhere which can easily cause diseases. The local authorities and troops have dispatched several decontamination units to clean up and disinfect the urban areas.
About 5,000 of soldiers of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), armed police forces, and militia reservists have been deployed in the main urban area of Zhengzhou to restore the order of production and normal life. This also means that the current overall task has shifted from emergency rescue to post-disaster recovery and reconstruction.
Soldiers and officers from the 83rd Group Army of PLA, Armed Police Forces, PLA Rocket Force and fire fighting forces worked together to help restore the order in the seriously affected Zhengzhou Fuwai Central China Cardiovascular Hospital.
"If we put all the force we have and the equipment on 5 vehicles into operation, we can finish the daily cleaning up work of 10 kilometers on the ordinary roads," said Yang Jiebin, a soldier of PLA Rocket Force.
After more than 10 hours of continuous fighting, the water level in the ponding hospital square dropped by 40 centimeters. The soldiers have transported more than 20 tons of various rescue materials, cleaned up and disinfected more than 100 houses.
More than 2,400 soldiers from the 83rd Group Army will carry out cleaning up work in four areas along the subway lines and over 1,000 officers of Armed Police Forces will go to 16 places to clean up subway stations. More than 1,000 militia reservists will carry out road cleaning in the communities and trails to help the residents restore normal life.
