Storyline

East China's coastal areas are ready in bracing for Typhoon In-Fa.

Torrential rain already started battering Taizhou City of Zhejiang on Friday, trapping six residents in a remote village.

Local police officers and firefighters swung into action to rescue the trapped people.

"We focused our efforts on rescuing the trapped residents because it would be very dangerous if they stay there. So I tripped and fell down," said Fang Jie, deputy head of the Ningxi Town's firefighting brigade.

Residents in many dangerous areas have been transferred to temporary shelters in Zhejiang.

Zhejiang Province upgraded its emergency response to Typhoon In-Fa to the highest Level I from Saturday noon, the provincial emergency management department said.

At 11:00 Saturday, the center of In-Fa, the sixth typhoon this year, was located about 395 km southeast of Xiangshan County in Zhejiang, with a maximum wind force of 144 km per hour, according to the provincial meteorological department.

The department expects the typhoon to move northwestward at a speed of 15 km per hour, and make landfall in the eastern or northeastern coastal areas of Zhejiang between the afternoon and night on Sunday.

The Zhejiang emergency management department has urged immediate flood prevention measures, saying that school classes, production, market, and road traffic shall be suspended when necessary.

Workers with Shanghai's urban operation digital management system said they have been monitoring the typhoon around the clock.

"As you can see on this map, it is the route of the typhoon tracked by the system. According to the information of the projected route, it will affect Shanghai by 09:00 of July 25," said Xu Bing, an official with the fire department of the Putuo District.

With the help of the digital management system, firefighters have begun dismantling setups and facilities on the roof of high-rises.
