Storyline

The Chinese mainland administered over 1.524 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines as of Friday, said the National Health Commission (NHC) on Saturday.

A total of 15,248,970,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines had been administered throughout the Chinese mainland's 31 provincial-level regions - namely provinces, municipalities directly under the Central Government and autonomous regions, and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.

China's capital city Beijing administered over 36.3163 million doses of vaccines to 18.6976 million people, of which 17.7294 residents are fully vaccinated.

The vaccination rate of permanent residents aged 18 and above in the city has reached 95.92 percent.

Beijing is promoting the vaccination of minors aged between 12 and 17 while a number of provinces, regions and municipalities gradually start their teenager vaccination programs.

Shifang City of southwest China's Sichuan province started to offer vaccination services to teenagers between 15 and 17 years old.

Different from the vaccination for adults, the informed consent form for minors adds items that guardians need to fill in. Before the vaccination, the information shall be filled in completely and the identity documents of both the parent and minor must be presented.

After the information of the minor has been registered, medical workers will ask about the health status and confirm that there are no contraindications before the vaccination. Minors need to stay in an observation area for half an hour after getting the jab.

In June, China approved the emergency use of its domestic inactivated COVID-19 vaccines on minors aged from 3 to 17 years old.
