Storyline

Putian City and Xiamen City in east China's Fujian Province accelerated COVID-19 nucleic acid testing on Tuesday to contain the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic.

Putian's Xianyou County, which has been hit hard in this most recent outbreak, began its second round of nucleic acid testing on Tuesday, with over 900,000 people in the county finishing the sample collection.

A team of more than 200 people from the national government, Fujian Province, Putian City and Xianyou County were formed to trace the source of the epidemic. In addition, the local government used big data and other means to ensure that the new cases on that day were transferred within 24 hours to help curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Xiamen, a port city in Fujian, started a citywide nucleic acid testing campaign on Tuesday. More than 1,400 medical workers from 19 hospitals and health departments were stationed at key streets to conduct nucleic acid testing and sampling for residents.

At present, all communities in Xiamen have implemented closed-loop management. Colleges, primary and high schools, as well as vocational schools moved their courses online, while kindergartens suspended operations.

In efforts to ensure the availability of supplies, relevant departments have strengthened market monitoring and stepped up commodity distribution for residents while strengthening prevention and control measures.

At present, wholesale markets and major business shops in Xiamen and Quanzhou cities are operating normally, and the supply of daily necessities is stable.

From Friday to 08:00 on Tuesday, Fujian registered a total of 139 locally transmitted positive cases of COVID-19, including 120 confirmed cases and 19 asymptomatic cases, according to the local health commission.

Among the 120 confirmed cases, 75 were reported by Putian City, 12 by Quanzhou City and 33 by Xiamen City. All the 19 asymptomatic cases were reported by Putian.
