The Chinese mainland had administered nearly 2.157 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines as of Tuesday, according to the data released by the National Health Commission on Wednesday.

Specifically, 2,156,938,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines had been administered in the 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps by the end of Tuesday.

The mass vaccination of China's young and elderly groups has proceeded smoothly across the country, aiming for a wider immunized population against COVID-19.

As of Aug. 31, over 290,000 doses COVID-19 vaccines had been administered for over 156,000 Taiwan compatriots on the mainland, said Zhu Fenglian, spokeswoman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, at a press conference in Beijing on Wednesday.

Some places have started the vaccination program for Taiwan students aged 12 to 17 on the mainland under the local vaccination arrangement, Zhu added.
