"The seminar is held against the backdrop of a new trend that global terrorism and radicalism are heading in currently, and the occurrence of some new circumstances, especially under the background that China's anti-terrorism measures are being misinterpreted maliciously and smeared by some countries. Storyline


An international seminar on "counter-terrorism, de-radicalization, and human rights protection" opened on Wednesday in Guangzhou City, capital of south China's Guangdong Province.

The event, now its fourth version, is co-sponsored by the China Society for Human Rights Studies and the information office of the People's Government of Guangdong Province, and hosted by Jinan University in Guangzhou.

Jiang Jianguo, Vice Minister of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, delivered an opening speech at the seminar, calling on the international community to unfold cooperation and multilateral negotiations to promote global counter-terrorism practices.

"The seminar is held against the backdrop of a new trend that global terrorism and radicalism are heading in currently, and the occurrence of some new circumstances, especially under the background that China's anti-terrorism measures are being misinterpreted maliciously and smeared by some countries. By holding the seminar, we hope to consolidate an international common awareness to jointly promote the de-radicalization and counter-terrorism careers," said Zheng Liang, an associate dean of the College of Journalism and Communications at Jinan University.

The seminar set its agenda both online and offline, with a top forum and three sub-forums convening with many counter-terrorism experts and media outlets from over 28 countries and regions.

During the discussions, the attendees were invited to share their opinions and raise proposals around the centric topic of international counter-terrorism cooperation and human rights protection in the "post-truth" era.

A participating professional said Chinese efforts in protecting human rights have heard ever-increasing positive voices from the international academic sphere in recent years, which will motivate the country to perform even better in the future.

"Upon years of efforts, now we can see many experts from the international community are highly praising the effects China has received from its measures from all aspects in protecting the human rights of all ethnic groups. I feel that our hard work is gaining the approval and approbation from more and more experts from the international community. I'm happy as well as excited for such achievements.
