The three Chinese astronauts who will form the crew of the upcoming Shenzhou-13 space mission met the press on Thursday.
Astronauts Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping, and Ye Guangfu will board the Shenzhou-13 crewed spaceship to be launched at 00:23 Saturday (Beijing Time) from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China, announced the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) on Thursday.
The three astronauts will conduct the last mission during the key technology verification phase for China's space station and be stationed in the core module for six months, working and living with the same timetable as on Earth, the CMSA said at a press conference held at the launch center.
The mission will be commanded by the experienced Zhai Zhigang, who became the first Chinese astronaut to carry out a spacewalk back in 2008. Wang Yaping became China's second ever female astronaut as part of the Shenzhou-10 mission in 2013 and will be the first woman to work on the Tianhe core module, while Ye Guangfu is set to make his maiden spaceflight during the upcoming mission.
China's cargo spacecraft Tianzhou-3, carrying supplies for the upcoming Shenzhou-13 crewed mission, docked with the space station core module Tianhe in late September.
The Shenzhou-13 mission is a part of a series of launches to complete the building of China's space station Tiangong by 2022.
