Storyline

The erroneous remarks by former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Taiwan are nothing but nonsense as they have willfully trampled down history and harmed the ties between the two countries, said a China Media Group (CMG) commentary published on Friday.

A translated version of the commentary reads as follows:

Shinzo Abe, who has been dreaming for a sense of presence in Japan's politics, recently made a series of negative remarks on Taiwan. On Wednesday, he claimed that "a Taiwan emergency is a Japanese emergency, and therefore an emergency for the Japan-U.S. alliance."

Chinese Foreign Ministry's spokesman Wang Wenbin denounced such remarks, saying that Taiwan is China's sacred territory, which will allow no interference by outsiders.
The remarks by Shinzo Abe have willfully trampled down and insulted history. It has blatantly ignored the basic norms governing international relations, harming the feelings of the people of both countries. They are nothing but nonsense out and out.

Speaking from a historical point of view, all the troubles in Taiwan have been whipped up by Japan. During its colonial rule over Taiwan for half a century, Japan committed innumerable crimes, over which it has grave historical responsibilities to the Chinese people.

However, in the eyes of Shinzo Abe, who to this day failed to face history squarely, has equaled "Taiwan's emergency" to "Japan's emergencies." He has been brazenly supporting the "Taiwan independence" force, which has become an extreme irony of history.

Moreover, Shinzo Abe not only falsely claimed that the Diaoyu Islands are so-called "Japanese territory," but also said that the Japanese side cannot tolerate the so-called "armed invasion of Taiwan" by the Chinese mainland.

It is nothing but sheer idiotic nonsensical dreamful attempt to cut the Diaoyu Islands off from the Chinese territory by mouthing a few crazy words. Since when, does a has-been politician has a right to point his finger at China's sovereignty and territorial integrity?

People have grown tired of Shinzo Abe and his clumsy-like performances. Shinzo Abe himself has been a thorough Japanese right-winger. He has done many things that have hurt the feelings between the two countries.

For example, he has paid tribute to the Yasukuni Shrine and clamored to visit the tomb of Lee Teng-hui, the "godfather" of the so-called "Taiwan-independence." He has been blacklisted by the people of both countries that have been hoping for a friendly China-Japan ties.

Shinzo Abe's militaristic restoration-like remarks this time have caused a lot of trouble for the Japanese government. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chinese Embassy in Japan have issued statements.

China's Assistant Foreign Minister Hua Chunying also called an urgent meeting with Japanese Ambassador to China Tarumi Hideo to lodge solemn representations over such remarks.

If the Japanese government does not redress its wrong immediately and acts accordingly, it is bound to seriously derail the political foundation of the relationship between China and Japan and seriously break the basic faith between the two countries. It will end up leading Japan into a dead end.

The Taiwan question concerns China's core interests. It is only up to the Chinese people to decide, brooking no outside interference. No one should underestimate the Chinese people's rock-firm determination, strong will, and powerful capability to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Japanese politicians who make irresponsible remarks on the Taiwan issue will only bring upon themselves humiliation. They might as well hold their tongue and save some face.

We admonish Japan to profoundly reflect on history, draw lessons from it, earnestly abide by the principles of the four political documents signed by China and Japan and its commitments so far, stop making trouble and provocations, neither to go down the beaten path of militarism, nor to attempt to obstruct and damage the great cause of China's reunification. Otherwise it is bound to have its head bashed bloodly.
