Storyline

The number of China-Europe freight trains entering and leaving China through the Manzhouli and Suifenhe ports along the eastern China-Europe freight corridor this year reached 3,318 as of Thursday.

A total of 310,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) of goods were delivered at the ports, marking a year-on-year increase of 16.3 percent and 16 percent respectively.

Compared with 2020 before the renovation and capacity expansion, the average daily volume of China-Europe freight east passage during the January-July period increased by 36.5 percent, ranking first among all corridors nationwide.

China-Europe railway has three main operating routes of west, middle and east, departing the country through ports including Alashankou in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Manzhouli and Erenhot in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

The number of trains passing through the eastern corridor has reached 186 since August, and railway departments have made every effort to improve operation efficiency and promote transportation capacity of the port for summer peak.

The upgraded international freight yard of Manzhouli station was officially put into use by the end of June, with doubled daily loading capacity of 840 TEUs.

At the same time, newly equipped detection devices will automatically recognize and record the operation number of freight trains in seconds.

"In order to ensure the high-quality operation of China-Europe freight trains, we have adhered to the principle of prioritizing the trains along these routes and accurately grasped the time, quantity and goods types of trains that operating overseas. We have also fully utilized the '95306 digital port' system to share information with customs and freight agencies and open up green channels, which effectively improved the customs clearance efficiency of these trains," said He Xiaoming, director of marketing sub-center of Suifenhe Station of China Railway Harbin Bureau.

At present, China-Europe freight trains have operated 22 lines via Manzhouli and Suifenhe ports, reaching 13 European countries. And the main goods collection sites lie in China's southeastern coastal areas, covering 60 cities including Tianjin, Changsha, Guangzhou and Suzhou.

In addition to traditional goods of raw materials and agricultural products, an increasing amount of food, consumer goods and cross-border e-commerce commodities are transported by return trains.

In July this year, 95 China-Europe trains passed Suifenhe port, hitting the single-month record high.

The cumulative number of freight trains operated along the China-Europe freight routes has exceeded 15,000 since its launch at the Manzhouli port in 2013.
