China has made historical progress in economic reform in the past decade, said the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) at a press conference in Beijing on Thursday.

The socialist market economy has become more systematic and mature, and the country's governance system and governance capacity have become constantly better modernized, according to the commission.

The vitality of market entities has been effectively stimulated, said the NDRC. The market-oriented reform of competitive links in key industries has continued to advance. The environment for the development of the private economy has been continuously optimized and the private economy continues to grow and develop. The number of private enterprises has quadrupled from 10.85 million to 44.57 million in the past 10 years.

The market system has been continuously improved. Further progress has been made in promoting the reform of "streamlining administration and delegating power to the lower levels, delegating power and strengthening regulation and optimizing service." The government has also vigorously promoted the reform of the price mechanism in key areas such as energy resources and transportation. The price regulation and control of important commodities concerning people's livelihood and bulk commodities has been strengthened, and the impact of increasing international imported inflation pressure, domestic sporadic COVID-19 outbreaks and abnormal weather has been effectively dealt with, so as to maintain the stable operation of the overall price level.
