5. Various of rescuers
Rescue operations are going on in Syria's Aleppo two days after the occurrence of strong earthquakes in neighboring Türkiye.
Located in northwestern Syria bordering Turkey, the province has been one of the regions hardest hit by the earthquakes. On Tuesday alone, multiple aftershocks battered the city.
The Syrian government has stepped up efforts to identify safety hazards of all buildings, especially those in eastern Aleppo, which have been serious affected by the civil war. Buildings here have been constantly shaken and some even directly shelled during conflicts.
Some fragile buildings with cracks were particularly vulnerable to earthquakes, which is why they collapsed immediately when the earthquakes happened.
If large cracks appear in a building, it has a high chance of toppling, so authorities will evacuate the inhabitants living in it immediately.
A building cleared on Monday collapsed in Tuesday's aftershocks without any casualties.
Fuel shortage has also hindered earthquake response, forcing rescuers to suspend work because there was not enough diesel to keep large machinery running.
Despite various challenges, relief forces and residents are doing their utmost to save as many lives as possible.
With the 72-hour golden time nearing the end, they are still endeavoring to rescue trapped ones, even clearing debris by hand to find relatives buried in rubble.
