So they want to spark the explosion, and then once Iran provides a response depending on the intensity of the response and severeness of the response, then the Americans and the NATO would open their way and escalate the tensions and the war levels in the region. Another one is providing some kind of excuse for the domestic population for its domestic consumption."

What I think is that it's going to be something outstanding because Iran wants to send a very, very strong signal this time."

Storyline

Iran will give a strong response to the deadly Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate building in Syria, said an Iranian political analyst on Tuesday.

Mostafa Khushcheshm, an Iranian political analyst, said that Israel wants to achieve two goals through the illegal methods: one is to drag Iran into the regional conflicts so as to distract the international communities' attention on the conflict in the Gaza Strip, and the other one is to ease the domestic pressure.

"They [Israel] intend to spread fire to the other parts of the resistant (countries) from Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Yemen and elsewhere, but they are not strong enough to do that. So they want to spark the explosion, and then once Iran provides a response depending on the intensity of the response and severeness of the response, than the Americans and the NATO would open their way and they escalate the tensions and the war levels in the region. And another one is providing some kind of excuse for the domestic population for its domestic consumption," said Khushcheshm.

Recently, Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) leader Ismail Haniyeh and secretary-general Ziad al-Nakhalah visited Iran successively, discussing the current Palestine-Israel situation with the Iranian side.

Iran expressed its consistent support for the Palestinian people to defend their rights.

Khushcheshm said that Iran's support for Palestine's resistance to Israel's strikes does not mean it wants the war to expand. That is why Iran has shown strategic restraint to the Israeli attacks on its military personnel in the past several months. But as Israel is escalating its provocative actions, Iran will make resolute response, he added.

"Iranians have found themselves somehow obliged and forced to provide such a strong response that could serve as a deterrence. Tensions across the Israeli borders will escalate. I do believe they might also receive responses through specific attacks, very special attacks, special operation attacks inside Israel. So, Iran has so many options. What I think is that it's going to be something outstanding because Iran wants to send a very, very strong signal this time," said Khushcheshm.

Iranian public opinion generally believes that in the current context of the ongoing Palestinian-Israeli conflict and heightened regional security risks, Israel's attack on Iran's diplomatic institutions is a risky and provocative act, which is bound to cause a strong response from Iran.

Meanwhile, the analyst also pointed out that Israel's move shows its intention to expand the war, which will lead to further escalation of the regional situation.

Israel on Monday afternoon launched a missile attack on the consulate building of the Iranian Embassy in Damascus, killing 13 people.

Iran's state TV channel IRIB reported on Tuesday that the airstrike had killed seven Iranian military advisers and six Syrians.
