Storyline

China conducted an on-site comprehensive pre-launch rehearsal on Sunday in northwest China's Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center for the imminent launch of the Shenzhou-18 crewed spaceship.

This rehearsal was held in accordance with the formal launch procedures.

Under the unified dispatch of the launch site system, the launch tower, rocket, spacecraft and other sub-systems underwent function checks. The whole process of the launch from preparation, ignition, blast-off and separation of the rocket and the spaceship were all simulated in the rehearsal.

Earlier on Wednesday, the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) said that the combination of the Shenzhou-18 crewed spaceship and a Long March-2F carrier rocket has already been transferred to the launching area.

The CMSA said the spaceship will be launched at an appropriate time in the near future.

Currently, the setting and connection between the rocket and the ground system, function checks of the rocket and the spaceship, as well as the coordination inspection and electrical property tests in the launch area, have been completed.

This overall rehearsal was to further test the reliability and safety of each system during the launch process.

During the rehearsal, the three Shenzhou-18 astronauts simulated a flight mission according to the procedures.

Wearing spacesuits, they entered the return capsule and started the joint inspecting and testing of the crew, spaceship, rocket and ground team.

When simulating blast-off of the rocket, the astronauts were required to complete all key operations in the preparation and blast-off stages.

""Throughout the joint rehearsal, the Shenzhou-18 crew members were full of energy, very calm and composed. They performed good teamwork in operation and coordinated smoothly with the ground team, thus achieving the expected results. The rehearsal demonstrated their good physical and mental status and training level. After the joint rehearsal, they will enter the final preparation stage, which mainly includes medical examination and physical and mental state adjustments, to ensure that they can perform the flight mission in the best shape possible," said Zou Pengfei, staff at the Astronaut Center of China.

At present, China's space station combination and various equipment are working normally.

The Shenzhou-17 mission is nearing its end now and the three astronauts in orbit, who are in good condition, are ready to welcome the arrival of the Shenzhou-18 crew.

In recent days, the landing site system has started to carry out search and rescue drill to prepare for the return of the Shenzhou-17 crew.
