Storyline


Various nighttime activities took place across China during the Spring Festival holiday, with visitors enjoying illumined buildings and dazzling festival lanterns for a visual feast.

The Spring Festival, the most important festival in China, fell on Jan. 29 this year, with an eight-day public holiday running from Jan. 28 to Feb. 4.

As evening falls, light decorations lining the banks of the Tuojiang River in Fenghuang ancient town of central China's Hunan Province are illuminated, casting a warm glow over the traditional stilt houses along the river.

Visitors can take a small boat for a nighttime tour along the Tuojiang River, watching the mesmerizing water-curtain light show while immersing themselves in the breathtaking nighttime scenery of the ancient town.

"I came with my families this time, and I feel very happy. The performances are full of elements of ethnic groups here," said Feng Hsin-ch'i, a visitor from Hong Kong.

"[The view] is well-designed, and we feel like we're in a fairyland. We are here in pursuit of enjoyment, as we've all been busy the whole year, and it's time to relax a bit," said a Sichuan visitor Shu Qiang.

In the first six days of the Spring Festival holiday, the Fenghuang ancient town received 400,400 tourist trips in total, with tourism revenue reaching 376 million yuan (about 52.3 million U.S. dollars).

In Yancheng City of east China's Jiangsu Province, a stunning light and water show has captivated visitors with its vibrant lights and intricate designs. Visitors can also participate in interactive sessions including comedy performances, magic show and singing to feel the festive vibe.

Vibrant nighttime activities are also held in Lijiang City of southwest China's Yunnan Province, where visitors can enjoy lantern parades, large-scale light shows, and traditional Naxi dance performances, all set against a backdrop of dazzling lights.

In Xi'an City of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, a Spring Festival lantern show is held during the Spring Festival holiday, featuring stunning light installations along the ancient city wall, one of the city's most iconic landmarks.

The event has drawn numerous visitors, offering a captivating blend of ancient buildings and modern lighting effects. The event will run until March 9.
