Storyline


China is ready to strengthen strategic communication and deepen cooperation with Georgia, while jointly implementing the Belt and Road Initiative, said Premier Li Qiang when meeting with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in Shanghai on on Tuesday.

Kobakhidze is in Shanghai for the 8th China International Import Expo which will open on Wednesday.

Li said that since the two countries established diplomatic relations 33 years ago, China and Georgia have always respected and understood each other, and firmly supported each other's core interests and major concerns.

Li said China is willing to work with Georgia to deepen exchanges and cooperation in economy, trade, people-to-people exchange, and other fields to better benefit the people of the two countries, guided by high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.

Noting that China and Georgia are both Global South countries, Li said that the two countries should unite with other developing countries to safeguard the global economic and trade order and uphold international fairness and justice.

Kobakhidze reaffirmed Georgia's adherence to the one-China principle and support for the four global initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping.

He said Georgia is willing to expand cooperation in economy, trade and people-to-people exchanges with China and strengthen multilateral coordination within the framework of jointly building the Belt and Road.

Following their meeting, Li and Kobakhidze jointly witnessed the signing of multiple cooperation documents.
