Storyline

Russian President Vladimir Putin was briefed on Sunday evening that the Russian forces had taken control of Krasnoarmeysk (known as Pokrovsk in Ukraine) in the Donetsk region and Volchansk in the Kharkov region, the Kremlin said in a statement on Monday.

However, the Ukrainian side hasn't made any comments on the issue.

Previously, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the combat conditions in Pokrovsk was favorable to Russian troops, and the Ukrainian forces were fighting them hard.

After the talks over a revised peace plan to end the Ukraine crisis between U.S. officials and a Ukrainian delegation on Sunday in Florida, Russia, Ukraine and the United States have carried out intensive interactions.

The U.S.-proposed 28-point "peace plan" was unveiled two weeks ago. Following its release, representatives from the United States, Ukraine and several European countries met in Geneva on Nov. 23 to discuss the plan.

Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet with U.S. presidential special envoy Steve Witkoff in Moscow on Tuesday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Monday.

"Moscow has shown cautious optimism towards its meeting with the U.S. side. Of course, there will be some obstacles in the process. As for now, resolving these issues could still be quite complicated," said Malek Dudakov, a political scientist specializing in American studies.

The Ukrainian delegation is expected to arrive in Ireland on Tuesday, so as to report the results of their talks with the United States to Zelensky. The president said the current plan looks quite promising, but also admitted that the issue over territory is the most difficult part.
