Gexian Village in Shangrao City's Yanshan County, east China's Jiangxi Province, has drawn crowds of tourists with thousands of glowing lanterns and a variety of vibrant folk performances during the Spring Festival holiday.
Nestled at the foot of Mount Gexian, a revered site for blessing, this 43-hectare resort started the Year of the Horse with a spectacular thousand-lantern parade, immersing tourists in the festive spirit of the Chinese New Year that fell on Tuesday.
As night falls, the village is bathed in a magical sea of lights under the glow of 1,000 lanterns. Tourists wander among colorful, intricately designed lanterns from across China, celebrating the new year with shimmering displays. Many also gather by the riverside to release floating lanterns, which carry their hopes and dreams into the year ahead.
Yanshan County is one of the largest areas inhabited by the She ethnic group in Jiangxi, and Gexian Village offers more than just ancient village charm. Tourists ringing in the new year here can also savor traditional She cuisine, with many festive dishes made of rice.
Folk song and dance performances are another highlight of the village's New Year traditions. Captivating ethnic dances invite audiences to join in, as the festive cheer reaches its peak.
This Spring Festival, Gexian Village has assembled nearly 100 folk performances from across China, including the Huohu (fire pot) performance, fire skirt dance, and traditional acrobatics, offering tourists an up-close encounter with the richness of China's cultural heritage.
To enhance the tourist experience during the holiday, Shangrao City has rolled out over 200 culture-tourism activities, totaling more than 2,000 events across scenic spots, urban areas, and rural villages. Running throughout February, these offerings promise a vibrant and unforgettable start to the Year of the Horse for tourists from near and far.
