China is expected to launch its Long March-5 Sunday to send the country's heaviest geosynchronous satellite into orbit from the Wenchang Space Launch Center in south China's Hainan Province. Fuel injection already started on Saturday, according to the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defence.
This will be the second launch mission for the Long March-5's. The first was done in November last year.
The carrier rocket is taking in kerosene and liquid hydrogen and oxygen will be injected early on Sunday.
The rocket was shipped from northern China in May and vertically transferred to its launch tower on June 28 after assembly and testing.
Apart from sending into geostationary transfer orbit the No.18 Shijian satellite, Sunday's launch mission will also further verify the capabilities of this heavy lift launch system. The verification is done for the launch of China's lunar probe scheduled for later this year.
Long March-5's are capable of carrying payloads up to 25 tons to low Earth orbit and up to 14 tons to geostationary orbit.
