A ferocious hail and rainstorm lashed Changzhi City of north China's Shanxi Province on Monday, wreaking havoc on the streets and severely damaging cars in the city.

Rainstorm with hail as big as bean caused by strong convective weather pelt Changzhi city at 16:30. The hail quickly turned to as big as egg. Many pedestrians had to take shelters under trees and cover the windows of cars with umbrellas and seat cushions.

Many cars were severely smashed by the hail, which left many holes on car windows.

"I have never seen such big hailstones before.‘We Chat’application is full of the discussion about the hail," said Ms.Wang, a citizen.

"I have never seen such big hailstones ever since I was born. The hail was as big as walnut and egg. It severely smashed cars. Just now, I took a taxi. The window of the taxi was severely damaged by the hail," said Mr. Zhao, another citizen.

Rainstorm with hail lasted about 20 minutes. According to local meteorological bureau, all seven districts in Changzhi City was hit by the adverse weather. The heavy rain caused flooding up to 27.4-centimeter deep in Huguan County.

The local meteorological observatory issued a lightning yellow early warning, indicating that lightning and thunder will be within the next six hours.

The adverse weather also caused damage to local agriculture.
