"During the meeting between Chinese President Xi and (Philippine President) Duterte, Xi has pointed out clearly that China and the Philippines have properly managed and controlled their divergences through dialogues and negotiations over most of the time since they established diplomatic relations, which constitutes a kind of political wisdom worth carrying forward, a successful practice demanding further unfolding in future and a foundation worth cementing for the two nations' common consensus to ensure healthy and stable development of their bilateral ties. On this basis, the two countries can exchange views on each and every issue and tackle disputes in an appropriate way through coordination and cooperation. In the joint statement released during Duterte's China visit, the two countries have clarified that they can negotiate with each other on their concerns over the South China Sea row. Please be assured that all issues relating to Chinese-Philippine ties will be successfully resolved as long as the two countries stay calm."
