5. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Lu Kang, spokesperson, China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
"The Chinese-Indian border issue is very complicated and sensitive. Intervention from a third party will only provoke and aggravate contradiction, to which the Chinese and Indian peoples will fall victim. We must draw lessons from previous experiences. We are convinced that China and India, as two big countries, can resort to abundant political wisdom to ensure peace and tranquility across the border area and to guarantee the rights and interests of their peoples."

China on Monday expressed its strong dissatisfaction with and had its firm objection to the United States for sending its ambassador to India to Arunachal Pradesh, a disputed area along the China-India border.
"China expresses strong dissatisfaction with and has firm objection to the senior U.S. diplomat entering the controversial border area between China and India," said Lu Kang, a spokesperson of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at a regular press briefing.
U.S. Ambassador to India Richard Verma went to Arunachal Pradesh to attend the Tawang Festival along with so-called local authorities.
The spokesperson urged the United States to halt such intervention into the China-India border dispute.

According to Lu, China has been consistent and explicit about the eastern part along its border with India. And the two countries are currently seeking solutions to settle their border disputes through negotiations and consultations and any responsible third party should respect the efforts by these two sides, instead of taking an opposing stance. The U.S. ambassador's presence at Arunachal Pradesh will do nothing but complicate the situation on the ground, destroy the hard-won tranquility in the border area and jeopardize the peaceful development of the region.
