A total of 50,085 ordinary Chinese in 14 cities, including Shanghai, Xi'an, Zhengzhou, Chongqing and Shenzhen, danced at the same time, setting a Guinness World Record for multiple-site large-scale dancing.
Actually 50,699 people took part in the event, but 50,085 people qualified for the final count, still setting a Guinness record, according to the organizer.
Participants were all excited to be part of this event.
"I'm really excited. I'm eager to start now," said a participant.
Square dance has become very popular across China in the past decade. Millions of people, mostly elderly, take it as a daily exercise or a hobby.
"After I started to take part in square dancing, I seem to be in a different mindset. I'm more open-minded and cheerful now," said a participant in Shanghai.
