Storyline

A warmhearted man has won extensive acclaims for his agility in saving a senior citizen on an escalator on Jan. 6 in east China's Shandong Province.

A footage from surveillance video showed the elderly lady fall to her feet after hesitantly stepping on the escalator in a real estate registration center in Yantai City.

Yu Haohan, the warmhearted man who works at the registration center, jumped over his counter a dozen meters away and rushed to deliver the lady in barely three seconds.

"I was working when I heard the noise over there. I turned around, and felt a senior citizen, either a woman or man, fell on the escalator. I thought something should be done so that he or she woould not be injured, then I stepped on the desk and then on the stool (to jump over the counter), and pulled the elder lady up. That was what happened," recalled Yu in an interview on Thursday.

Yu helped the lady walk to safety before returning to his work. The lady had no injuries.

Yu is a demobilized soldier and during his eight-year service he took part in the relief work in Wenchuan County of southwest China's Sichuan Province after an 8.0-magnitude earthquake devastated the area. The man in his 20s said he offered help out of intuition.

"Subconsciously I knew I should offer my help if a person is injured or in need of help. I think that's what one should do," he said.
