China hopes that all parties involved in the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue can reach consensus and make real efforts to achieve peace there, said a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Thursday.
The spokesman, Lu Kang, reiterated China's stance on the issue at a routine news conference in Beijing, saying a peaceful settlement by dialogue and consultation is the only effective way to achieve peace.
"We believe that a peaceful settlement by dialogue and consultation is the only effective way to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula and maintain its peace and stability. This is a firm position that the Chinese government has always upheld," said Lu.
Lu said all parties concerned had expressed their willingness to maintain peace in the region as a war would have disastrous consequences.
