Storyline

Enterprises from China and countries around the world are seeking opportunities for cooperation at the 5th International Technology Fair held in Shanghai.

The China-proposed "Belt and Road" Initiative is fostering greater technological cooperation among countries along the route, so companies are taking advantage of new business opportunities that arise.

To attract cooperators, companies at the fair are showing the cutting edge, such as a Hungarian enterprise exhibiting its latest product -- a heart monitoring device that can connect to a smartphone via Bluetooth. Simply holding the device for a minute can allow the user to acquire an electrocardiogram reading that he can then send to the doctor.

"The theme of the fair is health and big data. We hope to bring Europe's best resources and projects to China," said the exhibitor.

Meanwhile, Dubai enterprises are courting China’s new high-tech companies to settle in the city, hoping to transform it into an "Internet City".

"I came here because I heard that China is becoming more and more powerful in the field of high technology. There are a lot of famous enterprises such as Alibaba and Tencent. So we are going to introduce Dubai's investment and project environment to them. Then Dubai can serve as a platform of the Belt and Road Initiative, inviting Chinese enterprises to the city and further widening the Middle East and African market from Dubai," said Lv Danjie, director of the China Office under the Dubai Chamber of Commerce.

A "Belt and Road" cooperation forum was also held at the fair, attracting many Hong Kong enterprises to take part in the development opportunity with their counterparts from the Chinese mainland.

"Hong Kong [enterprises] have much experience in investment and trade. We can help enterprises from Chinese mainland in such fields as they actually face many risks when 'going out.' If our help in such fields really helps, then we can guarantee they will profit from many investments," said Luo Kangrui, chairman of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.

The technology fair runs from Thursday to Saturday.
