China urged all parties concerned to keep calm and restrained and avoid taking actions that may escalate the tension on the Korean Peninsula on Monday.

China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang made the call at a routine press conference in Beijing.

"The current situation of the Korean Peninsula is complicated, sensitive and under a great tension. We urge all parties concerned to keep calm and restrained and not to take any action that may aggravate and escalate the tension on the Peninsula," said Geng.

Geng also said the United Nations (UN) will hold a meeting over the Korean Peninsula issue.

"We have noted that the UN Security Council will hold a meeting on the Korean Peninsula issue. China is currently preparing for it and we will release further information at a proper time," said Geng.
