China's national weather observatory on Saturday issued this year's first orange alert for rainstorms, the second most severe of the country's four-color warning grade. The alert is for the area spanning from east through south to southwest for the next three days.
China has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red the most severe, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
Orange alert warns about rainfalls of up to at least 50 millimeters within three hours.
Torrential rains are expected to continue in parts of east China's Jiangxi, Anhui and Zhejiang provinces from Sunday to Tuesday, while southwest China's Guizhou Province and several southern provinces are also expecting heavy rains, according to the National Meteorological Center (NMC).
Accumulated precipitation will reach up to 300 millimeters in some areas from Sunday to Tuesday, said the NMC, warning against flooding and secondary geological disasters like land- and mudslides.
Heavy rains have battered Anhui and Zhejiang provinces last week already, causing flooding and waterlogging in many areas. Local authorities have been organizing disaster relief efforts.
