China's policy on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue has been consistent and is not to be swayed by whatever tricks, pressures or even threats, said a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman on Thursday.
Hua Chunying, the spokeswoman, made the remarks in response to questions about possible pressures the U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Joseph Dunford might put on China during his ongoing visit.
According to Hua, China has all along played a positive and constructive role in resolving the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.
"We've always played a positive and constructive role on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue. China's policy on the issue has been consistent and is not to be swayed by whatever tricks, pressures or even threats," she said.
Hua said that China is always committed to safeguarding peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula, maintaining the international non-proliferation regime and protecting China's strategic security interests. She added that China will, in the spirit of objectivity and fairness, make relevant policies on and take actions accordingly about the issue on its own merit.
