Storyline




Typhoon Hato, the 13th this year, made landfall on the coast of Zhuhai City, south China's Guangdong Province at 12:50 on Wednesday, according to local meteorological authorities, affecting major transportation systems across the province.

This is the strongest typhoon to hit China so far this year, with maximum wind speed reaching 45 meters per second at the center.

The typhoon is predicted to pass through the whole width of Guangdong after its landing, bringing persistent heavy rainfall to most areas in the province. Local authorities activated emergency response for the typhoon on Tuesday.

Affected by the typhoon, some coastal highways have been closed, flights and train services have been suspended or canceled in the province.

A total of 116 flights have been canceled at Zhuhai Airport on Wednesday, and several inter-city trains have been canceled too. Water transportation in the Pearl River Delta region have also been suspended.

The typhoon also forced local schools and businesses to close in the cities of Zhuhai and Jiangmen.
