A careless driver hit the gas pedal instead of the brake and drove his SUV into a bank, knocking down one pedestrian in Fuling District of southwest China's Chongqing Municipality recently.
The surveillance footage showed that after knocking down the pedestrian, the SUV broke the glass door of the bank and ran over rows of chairs before being stopped by a wall. Fortunately, as there was few pedestrians in street and no customers in the bank lobby, no one was hurt except the driver himself who suffered a minor wound in face.
Firefighters rushed to the scene and found no one trapped in the car. A pungent smell rose from the car because of a burnt brake pad. Ensuring there was nothing flammable leaking and no possibility of an explosion, firefighters left the case to police.
According to investigation, the driver was a resident in the neighborhood. He was preparing to park his car into a nearby parking lot, but mistook the gas pedal for the brake.
