Storyline

China strongly condemns the attacks in Afghanistan launched by Taliban militants that caused severe casualties, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said Thursday.

Media reported that the attacks happened Tuesday in several provinces of Afghanistan, killing about 70 people and injuring about 170 others.

"The Chinese side is deeply shocked at the heavy casualties caused by the related attack in Afghanistan and strongly condemn the incident. We extend profound condolences for those innocent victims, and convey sincere sympathy to the injured and families of victims," said the spokesman Lu Kang at a daily press briefing in Beijing.

Lu said that China is concerned about the escalation of violent conflicts in Afghanistan, and calls on related parties to actively support and participate in the Afghan-led and Afghan-owned reconciliation process to jointly safeguard the country's peace and development.
