Internet of Things (IoT) technology for smart city construction is highlighted at the ongoing China Hi-tech Fair (CHTF) 2017 in Shenzhen City, south China's Guangdong Province.
At CHTF's exhibition area for sensor technology, an intelligent street lamp has attracted much attention. Unlike the traditional street lamp, it is charged by new energy and has a screen and many cameras.
Once one presses the emergency button in the lamp post, the lamp will send an alarm and real-time images to the headquarters. Equipped with many sensors, the lamp can also collect information about weather and air quality.
"With such a street lamp, we can build an omnipresent perception system everywhere in the city," said Yao Jiankui, exhibitor of the intelligent street lamp.
A specialized IoT chip no bigger than a nail is also showcased at the CHTF. With the small chip, IoT devices with various sensors can transmit real-time information about location, humidity, carbon dioxide and concentration of hazardous fine particle matter PM 2.5.
"This is the world's smallest chip of its kind produced by our company. In terms of application on firefighting, it has two strengths. First, its small size makes it possible to be installed anywhere in the city. Second, it has low power consumption and a button cell can power it for at least three to five years," said Liu Zhengzhong, exhibitor of the IoT chip.
The China Hi-tech Fair 2017, running from Nov. 16-21, has drawn more than 3,000 exhibitors from over 30 countries and regions.
Covering a total area of 120,000 square meters, 12 exhibition zones feature hi-tech products in environmental protection, biological sciences, new energy, new materials, military and civil integration, and sensor technology.
The annual science and technology fair, launched in 1999, is the largest and the most influential in China.
