Storyline


Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yang met on Wednesday with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Papua New Guinean Prime Minister Peter O'Neill, who were in Guangzhou for the opening ceremony of the 2017 Fortune Global Forum.

When meeting with Trudeau, Wang said the consensus reached between Chinese leaders and Trudeau during his official visit to China will inject fresh momentum into bilateral relations.

China will work together with Canada to further expand bilateral trade and investment, strengthen cooperation in innovation capability and continuously enrich the connotation of the China-Canada strategic partnership, Wang said.

Trudeau said his current visit to China was fruitful and he expected both sides to strengthen investment and innovation cooperation and push forward the Canada-China free trade agreement negotiations.

When meeting with O'Neill, Wang said China appreciates Papua New Guinea's long pursuit of the one-China policy and is willing to work together with the country to jointly build the Belt and Road through discussion.

China will continue to offer assistance to the best of its capacity to Papua New Guinea and support the country to host the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in 2018, Wang said.

O'Neill said his country will continue to pursue the one-China policy and be a staunch partner of China.
