4. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Lu Kang, spokesman, Chinese Foreign Ministry:
"Just as what Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Yu Zhengsheng pointed out in his speech at the Memorial that only by correctly understanding history, is it possible to create a better future. Both China and South Korea were the victims of World War II. The people of the two countries all hold that only by correctly understanding the history, is it possible to prevent the repeat of the tragedy. We appreciate South Korean President Moon Jae-in for sending the South Korean Ambassador to China Noh Young-min to participate in the Nanjing Massacre National Memorial. We hold that this reflects not only the friendly feelings of South Korea for the Chinese people but also South Korea's upholding of historical justice. China would like to work together with South Korea in protecting the historical truth and shoulder the common responsibilities and missions in safeguarding regional peace and stability."
