Storyline

The visit of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang to Cambodia has yielded fruitful results, said a spokesman for China's Foreign Ministry at a briefing press on Friday.

Lu Kang, the spokesman, made the reply when asked about Li's visit to Cambodia. He said the Chinese premier's visit to Cambodia at the beginning of this year shows that China highly values China-Cambodia relationship.

During his visit, Li met with Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni, and held talks with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen. The two sides spoke highly of their friendship and cooperation during the past 60 years and said they will continue to maintain frequent high-level exchanges, enhance strategic communication and support each other on major issues.

"We reiterate that China will continue to support the Cambodians in following the path of development suited to their national condition. We will also continue to provide all kinds of assistance for Cambodia to maintain stability, reach development (goals) and improve people's living standards," said Lu.

Lu added that the two countries will further coordinate their development strategies, jointly build the Belt and Road Initiative and strive to accomplish new trade growth targets, especially in promoting the construction of Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone and stepping up building livelihood projects including rural roads, schools and medical services.

"During his stay, Premier Li Keqiang and Prime Minister Hun Sen witnessed the signing of 19 bilateral cooperative documents and viewed a picture exhibition marking the 60th anniversary of the establishment of China-Cambodia diplomatic relations, attended a launching ceremony for 'China-Cambodia Love Heart Journey' sponsored by China and jointly inaugurated the projects of China-Cambodia Friendship Preah Kossamak Hospital and Tboung Khmum Provincial Hospital," said Lu.

Lu said this year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Cambodia. He said he believes that with the implementation of these results, the China-Cambodia comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership will achieve greater development.
